This painting (left) sold today with a cautious estimate as Italian school XVIIth and an old attribution to Sassoferrato. In 1834 it was listed in the inventory from "La Galleria Manfrin a Venezia" as Sassoferrato #oldmasters

Auction Radar! This previously lost (since 1657) masterpiece, ‘Le Banquet des Lapithes’ by Laurent de La Hyre was found in a château in Sologne, is heading to auction on Nov 15, the Hôtel des Ventes Orléans-Madeleine (€500,000/€800,000).

Estimated at €200 as a 20th century "portrait of an old man", it looks more like a portrait of Democritus with a resemblance to portraits by Antoine Coypel. It fetched 215x its lowest estimate (hp) #oldmasters

Now listed as David Teniers the Younger.

Despite that it's a possible fragment from a larger composition this painting by Mattia PRETI fetched an above highest estimate price. "The family of Darius presents the crown and scepter, symbols of royalty in the Persian Empire" (circa 1655). Canvas 170.5 x 144 cm

This interesting "Still life with a cat" on parchment sold as 17th cetury artist was the highlight of an omd sale today. Inscribed on the back : "Hexcutians Pernam, / Caseum, Panem, Opus / Guilielmi Vanaelst" HP 26K€

@ThomasCels I remembered this too at the end it was considered as a forgery but it was sold again at a lowest price. Parchment, Vellum supports are good candidates for forgery. we'll see

@AuctionRadar It reminds me of a drawing that was sold in 2020 for 160.000 (estimation 800-1200). It came back on the market in 2023 for the original estimation. I would be very careful with these kind of things.

@ThomasCels Yes i have take a look at "Guilielmi Vanaelst" i don't see comparative work at the moment

@AuctionRadar I would be very surprised if it is Willem van Aelst. It rather has a Joris Hoefnagel kind of quality over it, which would actually be even a more valuable attribution.

This portrait as Italian/French 16/17th century, which is very similar to the Rouen MBA's by Lavinia Fontana from 1592, was timidly estimated at 8-10k€ with the signature took him to the stars. #oldmasters
