The “Pahlavi the Liberator” project is over.
It was built on an illusion from the start, the illusion that a family name could substitute for a real movement. Reza Pahlavi had no concrete plan, no organization, no base inside Iran. What he had was a brand, and a circle of supporters more attached to nostalgia than to reality.
After the “Woman, Life, Freedom” movement, they went on to live by the slogan “Man, Homeland, Nuclear Bomb”, a disgraceful fall for what had once been a people’s movement. A movement born in the streets of Iran was slowly hijacked by outside currents, and instead of amplifying the voices of people inside the country, it became a loudspeaker for the wishes of the diaspora.
The coalition that formed around him was a strange one: from thugs and opportunists like Ashkan Khatibi and Morad Veisi, to fervent worshippers. I feel sorry for Reza Pahlavi himself, honestly. A simple man who became a “project.” He didn’t build this project, and he didn’t have the capacity to manage it, but his name was on it, and he paid the price. His blindspots and his naive view of the world caused real damage; not just to himself, but to the hopes of many Iranians who were searching for something to hold onto.
I spoke harshly about him, and if I hurt anyone, I apologize. I still can’t believe how we got here.
My only hope now is peace and friendship between Iran and America. When sanctions ease and the economy can breathe again, a quiet but deep chain reaction begins. When people aren’t anxious about next month’s rent, they find the mental space to think. When small businesses recover, the middle class rebuilds itself, and the middle class has always been the engine of civil change.
Poverty is not politics but poverty crushes politics. When people are ground down by economic pressure, their energy goes toward survival, not struggle. Lasting civil movements throughout history have almost always emerged from societies that had at least a baseline of economic security. This means that opening Iran’s economy, even gradually, directly strengthens society’s capacity to demand change.

Last summer, I introduced the Persian Gulf Act after Trump threatened to rename it. Today, Pete Hegseth referred to it as the Arabian Gulf.
The Persian Gulf has been recognized as such by international bodies for centuries. Trump and Hegseth can’t change that now.

Pete Hegseth@PeteHegseth
USS Frank E. Peterson (DDG 121) and USS Michael Murphy (DDG 112) transited the Strait of Hormuz and operated in the Arabian Gulf as part of a broader mission to ensure the strait is fully clear of sea mines previously laid by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps.

Posting this with a lot of hope that, by some miracle, President Trump sees it.
If you believe in helping the Iranian people, not bombing Iran “back to the Stone Ages,” please watch, share, and tag

A U.S. official tells me the bridge was attacked because it was used by the Iranian armed forces to try and secretly move missiles and missile parts from Tehran to launch sites in Western Iran and for giving logistical support for Iranian military in Tehran

🚨🚨🚨Trump on Truth Social: The biggest bridge in Iran comes tumbling down, never to be used again — Much more to follow! IT IS TIME FOR IRAN TO MAKE A DEAL BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE, AND THERE IS NOTHING LEFT OF WHAT STILL COULD BECOME A GREAT COUNTRY!

@RapidResponse47 So, war crimes are your bargaining leverage at the negotiating table, right? You’ve already lost! Morally, politically, and on the battlefield!
