Great news - Stage 1 of the Australian Government’s $100 million commitment to build an additional four F-35 maintenance bays at BAE Systems’ Williamtown South Hangar have come online. This allows us to increase sustainment support to the RAAF, getting jets back into service quicker and into the air to defend our country.

⚓A fleet-ing moment in a more than century legacy 🫡 This month the #AusNavy commemorated 125 years of service and as part of the historic milestone, 31 naval ships from Australia and allied navies were on display in Sydney Harbour for the Exercise Kakadu Fleet Review last weekend. Fleet reviews are a naval tradition and since the 19th century have been held to commemorate special events. This occasion saw the largest assembling of international naval vessels in the harbour in more than 10 years and was one phase of Exercise Kakadu, a biennial maritime exercise with numerous countries hosted by #AusNavy. We were especially excited watching Australian ships on show but it was extra special seeing the Anzac class frigates and Hobart class destroyers. We share a long history helping to sustain both types and we’re honoured to be aboard for the journey of their service careers. 🤩 Read more about our maritime defence work: baes.co/ZigS50Yztc6

🚢 Commendation presented to outstanding contribution. ⚓ Jason in our DDG Program has been presented with a Department of Defence Bronze Commendation from Head Maritime Sustainment, Rear Admiral Brad Smith. This honour reflects Jason’s outstanding leadership helping to support Hobart class destroyer sustainment at HMAS Kuttabul in Garden Island, near Sydney. This work is maximising the days these ships can spend at sea in operation of Australia’s maritime interests and collaboration with allied navies. Congratulations, Jason! 👏👏👏😀

✅Perfect score for team on very first refrigerant gases audit! 🤩 Crucial to a ship’s life support system, refrigerant gases help to control onboard temperatures as well as maintaining fridges and freezers. This is especially mission critical when a vessel is transversing some of the hottest climates the planet has to offer. The HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) team is part of HMAS Hobart’s upgrade program and the regulator rewarded this hard work with an Environmental Stewardship Excellence Award. Well done, team! 🏆🥳 Being rated to handle refrigerant gases onsite adds a new capability to our Osborne Naval Shipyard and is one that will be utilised on future naval vessel sustainment and upgrade programs.

Work hard, play hard 💪 Our Sydney team spent last Sunday competing in the 2026 Lunar New Year Dragon Boat Festival. 🥳 The 2000-year-old water sport was a new experience for many of them and the team came third in the Defence and Government Industry Challenge. The day was all about sharing passion, celebrating culture and having some fun. Go, team, for setting the benchmark of comradery so high! 😃

Osborne Naval Shipyard welcomes the PM and Premier 🤝 Our CEO Craig Lockhart and a team of BAE Systems Australia employees hosted Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, SA Premier Peter Malinauskas and Defence Industry Minister Pat Conroy at the home of the Hunter Class frigate program for an historic announcement – the investment of $30 billion in infrastructure to build the SSN-AUKUS fleet of submarines. Both programs operate in Osborne Naval Shipyard - Hunter in the south, AUKUS in the north - and the VIPs toured inside Hunter blocks, with 60% of Ship 1 in production just 18 months after cut steel in mid-2024. Hunter is on budget and on schedule to deliver Ship01 to Navy in 2032. Today's announcement delivers critical infrastructure at Osborne North for the SSN-AUKUS build program, expands future naval shipbuilding in Australia and strengthens our nation’s industrial and economic resilience.

On the move at the Osborne Naval Shipyard. 🚢 NUSHIP Hunter’s Block 4 (a keel block) recently headed into the Blast & Paint (B&P) chamber. Along the way, it was pre-washed and received a red undercoat. Both activities are part of the preparation for B&P, where the block is now undergoing an abrasive blasting process and will be finished with a new, highly durable paint job. This special coating has been designed to protect the future frigate from corrosive sea conditions. 🎨🖌️ Once Block 4 completes B&P, it’ll be transported to Building 22 – our Block Outfitting Hall. Here, it will be joined by other blocks to construct the first Hunter class frigate.

What are Tier 1 and 2 surface combatants? 🤔💭 Surface combatants (surface ships) serve a variety of roles from air warfare to anti-submarine warfare. Having a blend of both categories enhances #YourNavy’s surface fleet, which is defending the country’s maritime interests. 🚢 Tier 1 (Hobart class destroyers, future Hunter class frigates) – Provide a high-end capability such as essential advanced air defence, long-range strike, presence and undersea warfare. Think of them as mission specific vessels. Tier 2 (Anzac class frigates, planned general purpose frigates) – Can both supplement Tier 1 combatants or operate independently to secure maritime trade routes, northern approaches and escort military assets, making them excellent allrounder ships. The Osborne Naval Shipyard is the construction home of Australia’s Tier 1 surface combatants, and it’s where we built both the Hobarts and, currently, the Hunters. All fired up 🚢💪 Type 26 frigate HMS Glasgow — The Hunter class frigate’s older sibling — had its engines switched on for the very first time. The four diesel generators will power the majority of the ship’s systems, with one generator alone being able to meet the power needs of around 1,500 average-sized houses. This is a significant milestone for the Type 26 Frigate Programme and is strengthening the international collaboration with our Hunter class frigates, Canada’s River class destroyers and Norway’s future anti-submarine warfare frigates — all of which are based on the Type 26 design. Congrats to our UK colleagues for the incredible effort. 🥳

Big news from Norway this week — five new #Type26 frigates are on the way. Here in Australia, our #Hunterclassfrigates are built on the same world-leading design, tailored with local innovation to meet #AusNavy's needs. It’s another demonstration of how the #GlobalCombatShip is strengthening the capability of our allies across the globe. We look forward to ongoing collaboration with the navies of the UK, Canada and now Norway, around our mutual goal of protecting our countries and the seas that surround them. 📰 Norway selects the UK and BAE Systems as its strategic partners to deliver future maritime capability 👉 baes.co/5jwZ50WQ45y

🤝The Collins class submarine fleet will continue to be supported by our periscope expertise under a five-year contract extension with the Commonwealth. We have manufactured, sustained, and upgraded the periscope systems for the life of the Collins class submarines. And in doing so, developed a local and global supply chain that delivers sovereign capability to the Royal Australian Navy. At our purpose-built Mawson Lakes facility in South Australia, and HMAS Stirling in Western Australia, we will deliver: 👉 Continuation of maintenance and logistics services 👉 Engineering and supply support 👉 Program management of 16 periscope systems This extension ensures the continued operation of the periscope systems, which are critical for the Collins class fleet to remain a credible and effective deterrent in the region.
