Is the U.S. closing its doors to international travelers? As of October 1, 2025, the U.S. is rolling out a new $250 "Visa Integrity Fee" for most nonimmigrant visa applicants. While it's officially labeled "refundable," the process to get the money back is completely unclear.

This isn't just a number. It's a direct threat to the 15 million American jobs in hospitality, retail, and transportation that depend on tourism. We're already seeing a 14% drop in international arrivals compared to pre-pandemic levels.

This move couldn't come at a worse time. According to a recent World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) report, the U.S. is the ONLY major economy projected to see a decline in international visitor spending this year—a staggering potential loss of $12.5 billion.

The process to get the money back is completely unclear, effectively making it a mandatory, non-refundable charge for millions of potential visitors.
