I wanted to follow up from my last tweets. Iโ€™ve always believed competitive equity & inclusivity areย bothย essential in sport.ย The current systemย doesnโ€™t adequately balance these importantย principles, which often leads to frustration and heated exchanges, and it didnโ€™tย help for me to get personal with Riley, which I apologize for.ย These are sensitive, complicated issues that I truly donโ€™t have the answers or solutions to,ย but I believe it starts with empathy and respect.ย I was not advocating for policies that compromise fairness in womenโ€™s sports.ย My objectionย isย toย be singlingย out childrenย for public scrutinyย inย ways thatย feelย personal and harmful.ย Individual athletesโ€”especially kidsโ€”should never be the focus of criticism of a flawed system they have no control over. I believe sports organizations have a responsibility to come up with rules supporting inclusion while maintaining fair competition.ย We all want a future for sport that is fair, inclusive, and respectful. Iโ€™m deeply concerned that DHS has identified Lawrence and Douglas County as sanctuary jurisdictions defying federal immigration law. In 2022, we enacted legislation banning sanctuary cities and counties to ensure compliance with federal law. #ksleg dhs.gov/sanctuary-juriโ€ฆ

As Riley Gaines pointed out, this is not something that happened in Afghanistan. This happened in Maine. Support this strong supporter of Fairness in Womenโ€™s Sports and shame on the Maine Democratic Majority.
Rep. Laurel Libby@laurel_libby

The Maine Democrat Majority has just moved to censure me, for speaking out against their failure to protect Maine girls and keep biological males out of girls' sports. Let me be clear: I will not be silenced and I will not allow the voices of Maine girls to be silenced.

Read every word:
Michael Shellenberger@shellenberger

Over the next few weeks youโ€™re going to hear Governor Gavin Newsom, Mayor Karen Bass, and the Democratic Party tell you that thereโ€™s nothing that could have been done to prevent the fires from destroying Los Angeles. Those will be lies. They could have prevented them. Governor Newsom cut the funding for preventing forest fires and failed to build sufficient water resources for fighting fires. Mayor Karen Bass cut $17.5 million in funding for the Los Angeles Fire Department and then went to Ghana even though she knew of the risk of catastrophic fires. Itโ€™s true that California, in general, and Los Angeles, in particular, are fiery places. Itโ€™s true that the Santa Ana winds made the fires worse. But Newsom and Bass have known about those hazards for all of their careers and failed to deal with them. Their rank incompetence and lack of leadership are shocking and scandalous. Itโ€™s hard to overstate how badly they screwed up water management. LA firefighters havenโ€™t had the water they needed. Newsom hasnโ€™t built the new water reservoirs that Los Angeles needed. And Newsom even cut the budget for water infrastructure projects last year. Why is that? Part of the reason is that they were focused on other things. Making the fire department more racially diverse. Climate change. Homelessness. And the reason they were focused on those things is because those are what the radical Left that controls the Democratic party wanted them to focus on. Year after year, they do nothing while focusing on things like trans and Trump and climate and ignoring the things that really matter to the people of California. The Democrats in California arenโ€™t like Democrats in other states. They are radicals. I would know, since when I was a young radical I moved to California for that reason. As many of us get older, we become more moderate. We become more practical. We understand firefighters and police officers are necessary. We are reminded of the importance of things like safe streets and hard work and good schools. But more than that, I saw the consequences of radical progressive policies on the environment, homelessness, crime, education, water, and everything else. Violent criminals, in particular, are devouring Los Angeles, Oakland, and the rest of California. The people who control the Democratic Party in California worship books about Los Angeles, like City of Quartz by the Marxist author Mike Davis. In that book, Davis claims that the problem in Los Angeles is that too much money goes to things like firefighting to protect wealthy neighborhoods. They did the same thing on crime and homelessness. They failed to provide adequate funding to the police. They weakened the laws that allowed for burglaries and robberies. They subsidized homelessness, attracting homeless people from around the United States to camp illegally and start fires. Over half of the fires in places like Los Angeles and Oakland are caused by the homeless committing arson, often out of some petty revenge. We donโ€™t know what started all of the fires, but at least one started within the housing subdivision. Others may have started in the interface between housing and wildlands. Or it could have been started by the homeless. Whatever the case, California and LA didnโ€™t invest enough in preventing fires because they were distracted by radical Left causes. When Rick Caruso ran for Mayor against Karen Bass, he called for increasing the fire departmentโ€™s budget. A big part of the reason he lost is simply because he was white. I watched focus groups in 2022 and the most racist people were white liberals in Los Angeles. When they discussed the mayoral race, the white people overwhelmingly said they couldnโ€™t vote for a white man and had to vote for a black woman because she was black. The Latino men and women in separate focus groups were much less racist. They wanted to know about their policies. It was the radical Left that invented the racist idea that white people alive today should feel guilty about things white people did in the past. Racist white guilt led people in Los Angeles and California to vote against a guy who would have prevented those fires. And so, over the next few weeks, when you hear Governor Gavin Newsom, Mayor Karen Bass, and the Democratic Party tell you that thereโ€™s nothing they could have done to prevent the fires from destroying Los Angeles, donโ€™t believe them. Itโ€™s time for California to grow up and move beyond the juvenile Leftism that has destroyed the state and destroyed Los Angeles. We canโ€™t trust our leaders to run anything. Itโ€™s not just incompetence. Itโ€™s that they really donโ€™t care. Itโ€™s time for Californians to demand new leaders โ€” ones who arenโ€™t beholden to the radicals who control the Democratic Party. .

All voices in #KS03? How do you do that when you wonโ€™t even show up to an in-district candidate forum even after they promise you wonโ€™t have to answer constituent questions or be on stage with your opponent? During this election cycle youโ€™ve only shown up at the DemHQ and at Dem events How do you claim to represent everyone when you refuse to listen to anyone outside of your party?
Sharice Davids@sharicedavids

I'm running for Congress to represent all voices in #KS03, regardless of political party.

My mom, Ethel Skakel Kennedy, passed peacefully into Heaven this morning. She was 96. She died in Boston surrounded by many of her nine surviving children and her friends. God gave her 34 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and the energy to give them all the attention they required. He blessed her with a rich and eventful life. Even as she declined in recent months, she never lost her sense of fun, her humor, her spark, her spunk, and her joie de vivre. She wrung joy from every moment, but for 56 years she has spoken with yearning of the day she would reunite with her beloved husband. She is with him now, with my brothers David and Michael, with her parents, her six siblings, all of whom predeceased her, and her โ€œadoptedโ€ Kennedy siblings Jack, Kick, Joe, Teddy, Eunice, Jean, Rosemary, and Patricia. From the day she met my father, her new family observed that she was โ€œmore Kennedy than the Kennedys.โ€ She was never more enthusiastic about the afterlife than when she considered that she would also be reunited with her many dogs, including 16 Irish setters โ€” all conveniently named โ€œRusty.โ€ The cognitive dissonance that allowed her to keep two inconsistent truths in her heart at the same time without budging made my mother a collection of irreconcilable convictions. Among these was her ironic combination of deep โ€” nearly blind โ€” reverence for the Catholic Church and irreverence toward its clerics. She was at once starstruck by Americaโ€™s presidents, all of whom she came to know personally, and at the same time skeptical of government and toward all figures of authority. She balanced her contempt for pretension and hypocrisy with a boundless tolerance for error and mistakes in others. God also endowed her with a perpetual attitude of gratitude that fueled her taste for adventure and an irrepressible buoyancy in a life beset by a continuous parade of heartbreaking tragedies. Her sunny optimism eventually brought my shattered father back to life following the assassination of his brother and then helped her children to thrive after her husbandโ€™s assassination five years later. Among her most defining qualities were moral and physical fearlessness. She was a peerless equestrian and held the high jump record on horseback, jumping 7โ€ฒ9โ€ณ on a Quarter Horse. Critics named her among the best female amateur tennis players, and she was a competitive diver. But she did every sport well โ€” from football to skiing, waterskiing and kayaking. Her disciplined stoicism and her deep faith in God enabled her to endure over ten years of pregnancy without complaint. She also suffered the murders of her husband and Uncle Jack, and the early deaths of two of her children. Various air crashes killed both of her parents, her brother, her sister-in-law, and her nephew John. She never enjoyed flying, but her worry never stopped her from boarding a plane. While giving short shrift to her own monumental suffering, she always showed intense compassion for others. My mother invented tough love, and she could be hard on her children when we didnโ€™t live up to her expectations. But she was also intensely loyal, and we always knew that she would stand fiercely behind us when we came under attack by others. She was our role model for self-discipline, for resilience, and for self-confidence. She deeded to each of her 11 children her love of good stories, her athleticism, her competitive spirit, and the deep curiosity about the world, and the intense interest in people of all backgrounds, which caused her to pepper everyone she met โ€” from cab drivers to presidents โ€” with a relentless cascade of questions about their lives. She also gave us all her love of language and for good storytelling. I credit her for all my virtues. Iโ€™m grateful for her generosity in overlooking my faults.
