I used to believe Donald Trump was simply an outstanding President. But then I watched in real time as the mainstream media, the FBI, intelligence agencies, Big Tech, and the entire Washington establishment joined forces in an unprecedented campaign to destroy one single man. The constant lawfare, the two impeachments, the endless Russia collusion hoax, the Mar-a-Lago raid, the gag orders, the efforts to remove him from the ballot, the attempts to bankrupt him and throw him in prison... all of it aimed at stopping him from ever returning to power. That's when it became undeniable to me: No one gets this level of coordinated, hysterical opposition unless they pose a genuine existential threat to the system... The system that we all know is corrupt and broken. Ordinary politicians don't trigger that kind of coordinated panic. At that moment, I stopped thinking of him as just a great President. He is the greatest of all time.

There are a lot of stories about Chinese assets acting like havens, especially China IG credit outperforming. How do you square that with a very weak economy?
Well, the reason China IG credit is outperforming is because of the weak economy. Demand for loans is low and so banks are flush with liquidity. What to do with all that cash? Well, China is still buying USD assets even if it's selling UST. It's buying USD corporate debt etc. China credit is that example.
It's not really a sign of strength but domestic demand weakness and yields rather low onshore.
The big picture here is that China is investing outward given margin compression onshore. Whether it's low yielding govies or low corporate profits, all signs says you gotta go outward to hunt for yield and growth.

Currently, the HIV acquisition rate among gay men is about 400 times higher than among straight men and about 200 times higher than among straight women. That ratio was probably even higher in the 1980s. So regardless of whether closing bathhouses was an effective means of curbing the spread of HIV, was the effort to do so rooted in a moral panic when AIDS was primarily decimating gay men? I got subjected to this type of historical revisionism a lot when I was reporting about monkeypox. Somehow young people have gotten the incorrect message that it was wrong to ever presume that HIV disproportionately impacted gay men in the West.
