This weekend a deal reopened the Strait of Hormuz, and WTI fell more than 5% to roughly $80, its lowest level since March. The premium that built over three months of conflict came out of the price in a matter of hours. Our latest post looks beneath that headline and asks a simpler question: what actually changed this weekend? A signature reopens a shipping lane. It does not refill a drained reserve, restore the barrels the world burned through, or rebuild damaged infrastructure. The price moved. The barrels did not. Using 35 years of weekly EIA data, we measured the relationship between the U.S. physical supply position and the real price of crude. Across more than 1,800 weekly observations, the two barely move together on any horizon a trader cares about. Markets trade headlines, but barrels move on a different clock. Behind the history-making point totals and the state titles, there were 5:00 AM alarms, grueling practices, and endless hours of unseen effort. Today, our community is celebrating two massive milestones: winning our 10th UIL Lone Star Cup title with the highest point total in Class 6A history, alongside earning the inaugural Class 6A THSADA Texas Cup! But these incredible accomplishments didn't happen overnight. They were built on the sweat of student-athletes who pushed through every whistle, coaches who spent late nights mentoring and drawing up game plans, and the trainers, staff, and parents who kept the entire engine running behind the scenes. Every single sport, campus, and program poured everything they had into this year. As the Title Sponsor of the Carroll Athletics Program, we at Basin Ventures are incredibly proud to support this relentless standard of excellence year after year. Congratulations, Dragons! 🐉 #WeAreDragons #DragonPride southlakecarroll.edu/news-details/~…

Team Spotlight: Matt Krause, EVP of Institutional Relations Matt Krause serves as Executive Vice President of Institutional Relations at Basin Ventures, where he leads the firm's institutional outreach, limited-partner relationships, and coordination for its institutional Horizon Fund initiatives. Matt brings a career built on public service and relationship leadership. He served five terms in the Texas House of Representatives and currently serves as a Tarrant County Commissioner, roles that have shaped his reputation for principled, long-term stewardship. At Basin, he applies that same discipline to the institutional relationships that support the firm's continued growth. His work comes at a pivotal moment for Basin. As the platform matures, the firm is expanding beyond its retail funds into institutional investment vehicles through its Horizon Fund initiative. Matt is helping lead that effort, bringing the same rigor and transparency that define Basin's retail investor relationships to a new and growing institutional audience. It marks a meaningful step in the firm's evolution, and one we look forward to sharing more about in the months ahead. Matt's leadership arrives at an important moment for Basin, and his judgment, relationships, and integrity will help shape the institutional chapter ahead. #TeamBasin #InstitutionalInvesting #InvestorRelations #BasinVentures

Non-operated working interests are no longer a niche corner of upstream. A recent Hart Energy report from its 2026 Energy Capital Conference described capital moving into the strategy fast enough to reshape it from a specialist play into a core way institutional investors gain exposure to U.S. oil and gas. Fund formation is up, institutional money is returning, and the largest publicly traded non-operated owner in the country just expanded north of the border. That influx has a catch the panel was candid about. Firms are seeing more opportunities every week than their teams can work through. One partner described his engineers as "running ragged" trying to keep up; another noted that with more capital chasing the same basins, "it's harder to get these deals done." At that volume, the constraint is no longer finding deals but having the discipline to triage quickly and put resources behind the few that fit. The panel was equally direct about the operator. A great asset in the hands of the wrong one is not a near-miss to be salvaged. As one managing director put it, "if the asset's great and the operator's bad, pass, hard pass." This is how Basin Ventures has worked from the start. Much of our deal flow is relationship-driven, surfacing through operators and industry partners we have worked alongside for decades rather than broad marketing channels. From there, we screen operators before assets, hold to a conservative base case, and diversify across operators, wells, and basins so that no single development schedule defines the fund. If you are an accredited investor thinking through where non-op fits in your portfolio, our investor relations team is glad to walk you through how we approach it. basinventures.com

There is a quiet but important distinction inside private oil and gas investing that most accredited investors never have explained to them. On one side sits exploratory drilling: wildcat prospects in unproven areas, where the geology, the operator, and the economics are all being tested at once. The deduction is real. The asset, often, is not. On the other side sits development-stage drilling: infill locations inside production-held units, with offset wells already validating the rock, alongside operators who have drilled the same formation many times before. The geology is known. The operator is proven. The economics are modeled to a conservative base case before a dollar moves. Basin Ventures participates only in the second category, on a non-operated basis, alongside established U.S. operators across basins such as the Anadarko, Eagle Ford, Haynesville, and many others. The structural choice matters more than most investors realize. It is the difference between underwriting a well and underwriting a hope. It is also the reason the investment is built to stand on its own economics, with the tax benefits as a meaningful but secondary component of return. Our Fund IV is currently open to accredited investors, with limited allocations remaining. A few snapshots from the field across active Basin Ventures projects: drilling underway, completions in progress, new pads being built, and wells coming online. Behind these images are top-tier domestic operators executing the day-to-day field work, alongside the Basin Ventures team that sourced, underwrote, and structured these opportunities from the start. It’s always rewarding to see projects move from planning and development into active operations, and we’re proud of the progress taking place across our portfolio. We’ll continue sharing updates as these projects advance from pad to production. #BasinVentures #DomesticEnergy #OilAndGas #EnergyInvesting #WorkingInterest

Today we honor and remember the men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Their sacrifice made possible the freedoms, opportunities, and way of life we often take for granted, including the ability to build, work, invest, and create here at home. At Basin Ventures, we’re especially grateful for those who served and for the families who carry that sacrifice with them every day. Wishing everyone a meaningful and reflective Memorial Day. 🇺🇸

We are incredibly proud to congratulate our Co-Founder & Managing Partner, Tim Davis, on being named one of Fort Worth Magazine’s 500 Most Influential People for 2026! This recognition highlights Tim’s exceptional legal practice, but his impact extends even further. As Chairman of the Tarrant County Republican Party, he leads one of the nation's most influential conservative counties. Anyone who knows Basin knows that this same leadership, integrity, and strategic vision are the driving forces behind everything we do here. We are grateful for the way Tim leads our firm, and for his dedication to our team, our investors, and our community. Congratulations, Tim. Well deserved. 👏

We've said it before and we'll say it again: a strong tax strategy can't fix weak assets. 🛑 Direct ownership in upstream energy offers meaningful tax benefits, but at Basin Ventures, we view these advantages as enhancements—not the foundation—of an investment thesis. Our focus? Asset and operator quality. Our sourcing approach is basin-agnostic, meaning we go wherever the rock and the economics make the most sense. We support this with a rigorous, multidisciplinary due diligence process that deeply scrutinizes the geology, engineering, and financial modeling of every prospect before we commit. Just as importantly, we only align with proven, top-tier operators. We target partners who possess deep basin-specific expertise, established track records of execution, and a history of strict cost control. Through our non-operated working interests (NOWI), accredited investors participate directly alongside these elite operators without taking on the day-to-day operational headaches. The Enhancements (Key Tax-Aware Features): • Intangible Drilling Costs (IDC): Non-salvageable development costs that may be deductible in year one (depending on your structure). • Tangible Drilling Costs (TDC): Equipment costs depreciated over time or accelerated based on tax treatment. • Depletion Allowance: Favorable tax treatment on a portion of income, helping reduce taxable income over the well's life. The Foundation: Basin emphasizes transparency. While we don't provide individual tax advice (always consult your CPA), our investor portal offers ongoing visibility into production, revenues, and distributions. Tax benefits matter, but they only work when built on good rock, strong operators, and credible fundamentals, not the other way around. Amidst today’s macroeconomic uncertainties and global volatility in the oil and gas sector, direct domestic U.S. energy participation offers a strategic shield against international supply shocks. However, capitalizing on this localized energy security requires a disciplined approach. Basin Ventures focuses on reducing avoidable risks through three core mechanisms: 1. Strict Operator Selection:We align with top-tier operators with proven execution quality, as their day-to-day expertise drives drilling, completion, and ultimate outcomes. 2. Diversification: Spreading capital across multiple operators, basins, and asset types mitigates regional execution risks and commodity volatility, serving as a vital tool for portfolio-level risk management. 3. Non-Operated Structures: Investing as a non-operated working interest (NOWI) allows investors to gain direct ownership and production-linked revenue without the burden of operational responsibilities. Basin reinforces this framework with rigorous multidisciplinary diligence—covering legal, geological, engineering, and financial analysis—alongside transparent communication to ensure investors are never left in the dark. While inherent industry risks like commodity volatility remain, Basin’s role is to mitigate avoidable exposure through selective underwriting. Ultimately, careful operator selection, diversification, and our non-operated structure form the foundation of Basin’s model, enabling investors to confidently leverage resilient domestic energy. Basin Ventures Fund IV is rapidly approaching capacity and will be closing soon. Contact our team today to secure your position and capitalize on the strength of direct U.S. energy.

Three years ago @tim_davis and I started @basinventures from scratch. No institutional backing. No inherited portfolio. Today: 25 producing wells across three basins. A new Cherokee pad drilling right now. 80-plus PUD locations in the pipeline. Investors receiving production revenue checks from 11 operators across three states.

A generational supply shock doesn't create investment theses. It validates the ones already built. We've written for years about LNG export growth, AI-driven power demand, and tightening U.S. gas storage. The Hormuz closure, the strike on Qatar's Ras Laffan LNG complex, and the U.S.–Iran dual blockade that followed have compressed years of that thesis into a single quarter.
