Seemed like a missed opportunity to have the first official crossing of Portage and Main be a few city councillors instead of the thousand people in the crowd excited to be part of it. A mob crossing would have been a great visual and statement. Oh well.

Today, City Council passed a motion to open Portage and Main at grade for pedestrian crossings by the summer of 2025. This decision comes after careful consideration of the costs and construction timeline associated with repairing the waterproof membrane at the intersection.

Driver in a white Toyota didn’t like the street being closed for Jazz Fest. Decided to dodge the barricades and take the bike lane at about 40km/h. Ran over two bikes and flew into traffic on a red light. Thankfully he didn’t hit any of the several hundred people waking around.
