Compromise is when we change our mind about something that God has not changed his mind about. 

Don’t study because you want to preach; want to preach because of what you’ve studied.

When you read the book of Leviticus, pair it up with the book of Hebrews. For every 2 chapters of Leviticus, read 1 chapter of Hebrews. The shadows in Leviticus become much more exciting when you realize the substance is Christ. He is both our High Priest and our sacrifice!

What if singers could only sing in tune if they were in tune with God? What if a preacher’s sermon was as only as “good” as his walk with God? Just because man applauds it does not mean that God approves it. Stage presence will never be more important than the secret place.

3 things to consider when you are struggling with insecurity: 1. Someone else believed you were capable of the position you have right now. 2. God sovereignly put you in the position you have right now. 3. The people that intimidate you are insecure too!

Your real god is whoever or whatever you run to when you are in trouble.

When you live for an audience of One, you’re the same person alone that you are in a crowd.

I understand that many admired and feel emotionally connected to Philip Yancey, so please forgive me if I seem unsympathetic. This man is 76 years old and has been married for over half a century. Yet he chose, at the twilight of his life, to destroy — not only his own marriage — but the marriage of another couple and commit adultery. I find it very difficult to believe this is the first time he’s been unfaithful. There are, of course, exceptions, but people rarely live their entire lives one way only to completely change character as a septuagenarian. As a theologian and pastoral leader in Christian culture, depending on the other woman’s relationship to him, this is almost certainly spiritual and sexual abuse on top of adultery. Making matters worse, his wife’s statement reflects the abuse-enabling doctrines so often preached to Christian women in abusive and broken marriages. “Forgive. Stay. Submit.” But Jesus would not have made her stay. “But I say to you that everyone who divorces … except on the ground of sexual immorality … commits adultery.” Matthew 5:32 This whole situation is appalling.

Sometimes staying where God has put you takes more faith than going where God has called you.
