🎙️ Gavi speaking on Lewandowski’s departure:
I’m not really an emotional person, but tonight I can’t lie… this one hurts. Seeing Lewandowski leave is something very difficult for me personally. I tried holding the tears back, tried staying strong, but it’s not easy at all because he means so much to this team and to me.
When he arrived at Barcelona, things were not easy around the club, but he was one of the people who helped bring belief back. From the first day, he carried himself like a leader, someone who understood what this badge means and what it takes to fight for it. He didn’t just come here to score goals, he came here to change the mentality of the team, and he did exactly that.
For me, he was never just a teammate. He became a friend, a big brother, and honestly someone I learned a lot from every single day. The advice he gave me, the way he spoke to me during games, the way he pushed everyone in training… those are things I’ll always remember. At this club, aside from Pedri and Lamine, he’s one of the people I became closest to.
People see the football side of Lewandowski, the goals, the trophies, the professionalism, but what many don’t see is the human being he is behind the scenes. He always looked after the younger players, always tried to help us improve, and always brought leadership into the dressing room. Players like him are very rare.
The space he leaves at this club will take a very long time to fill because his impact went far beyond football. I genuinely don’t even know what else to say because it’s hard to accept he’s leaving, but I’ll always be grateful I had the chance to share a dressing room with him.
I just want to wish him happiness and success on his new journey because he truly deserves it all.
