Yes, Winnie the Pooh is inspired by a real black bear named Winnipeg (Winnie), bought by Canadian soldier Harry Colebourn in 1914 during WWI. He donated her to the London Zoo, where A.A. Milne's son Christopher Robin encountered her, naming his teddy bear after Winnie and inspiring his father's stories. The characters are fictionalized, but the bear was real.
