Long story short? This is due diligence. The club are pushing hard to secure Champions League football & quietly doing serious homework on central midfielders for the summer window, with at least two new CMs incoming. The money isn't endless & they need a plan of attack to spend it wisely. Availability, price, deal structure, wage demands, scouting, data - this has the feel of a club moving smarter, no longer solely focused & narrow minded to one target - nor should we be either. No panic buys, well considered & thought out plans. It is the summer of the midfielder. Or two. Or three.
