For a few minutes today, I was quietly impressed with the words of sympathy shared by prominent members of the right wing about the murder of Rob Reiner and his wife, Michelle. In my mind, these went a long way towards countering the vitriol from a lot of the smaller, lesser known, anonymous accounts. The same thing happened after the murder of Charlie Kirk: prominent, large Democratic accounts came out and denounced it, from our Presidents and members of Congress, down to "influencers." It's important to make that distinction, because whom do we give weight to? Who represents the sentiment of our parties -- the unknown social media accounts, or our leaders? For the record, I had zero faith that trump would be able to control his own worst, base instincts. The President of the United States behaves like a common troll.

Gutted by the tragic deaths of Rob and Michele Reiner. I first met Rob campaigning for Prop 10 (the tobacco tax that created California’s “First 5” kids’ programs) in 1998 and loved his and Michele’s fierce patriotism. Their lives were dedicated to entertaining and enriching others — and their legacy will live on with the Californians who “talk, read, sing” to their babies with First 5 kits then raise their kids on his iconic movies, from Stand By Me to When Harry Met Sally to A Few Good Men to Spinal Tap. This photo is from October 2024 — a hopeful time. Rob appeared with several California Democratic candidates, putting his whole self into their cause days before he hosted a preview screening of Spinal Tap 2. Then, as always, Rob mastered art and politics with a raging energy and beatific smile. May Rob and Michele rest in peace, and be of blessed memory to all who loved them.
