Taliban Supreme Leader arrests his rival. In one of its kind operation the so called Dead Squad which also protects Mullah Haibatullah the Taliban Supreme leader hastily arrested Mutasim Agha Jan the former chief of staff and Finance Minister of Taliban founder and then Leader Mohamad Mullah Omar, he was arrested in Kandahar on Monday April 13. Mutasim Agha Jan is one of the founders and one of the most prominent Taliban leader who was key in resurgence of Taliban in Pakistan in 2003. From 2003 to 2012/13 he was only second to then the Taliban leader Akhtar Mansour. In 2012 he had a major disagreement with Akhtar Mansour over the Taliban funds which caused altercation and was shot several times by Akhtar Mansour’s armed men and left for dead in Quetta Baluchistan, half alive he contacted General Raziq the then formidable commander of police in Kandahar and he was taken to Kandahar safely and got airlifted to Bagram for treatment and then lived in Turkiye and UAE. In 2023 his long time student and now Defense Minister of Taliban Mullah Yaqub went to Dubai and invited him to Kabul where he was given several Armoured vehicles, money and had the full support of Mula Yaqub who is also Mula Omar’s son. Mutasim Agha Jan quickly build his power house in Kandahar and everyone saw him as a replacement to Haibatullah Akhundzada. As Mutasim’s powers grew in Kandahar so did the Taliban leaders paranoia ultimately causing his arrest. It’s not known whether he was plotting a coup against Haibatullah or can his arrest cause a coup against Haibatullah now?
