@WWIIpix The cockpit and nose of Flak Bait was on display at the Air and Space Museum on the mall in DC for years. The rest of the aircraft was in storage, and it's now being reassembled.

This day in 1945, US bomber Martin B-26 Marauder "Flak Bait" completed a record 200th bombing mission. The aircraft is currently undergoing preservation at the Smithsonian Institution's National Air and Space Museum. #WW2

@CynicalPublius I'm a Cold War vet, serving in an office in the US between Vietnam and Grenada. I'll accept the vet label, but I stand towards the back while those who actually got shot at are recognized. They issued Cold War Veteran certificates, but mine got lost somewhere.

I get slightly mad at veterans who feel it is unfair that they call themselves veterans because they never served in a combat zone. I always tell them: "You raised your right hand. You were ready to die for your country. You're a veteran." This is particularly true for Cold War vets who stared down the Soviets. There should be an official Cold War Service Medal.
