Davy Crockett (1786-1836): Born Aug 17 in Tennessee log cabin, Ulster-Scots descent with ancestors from Castlederg, Co Tyrone (French Huguenot roots settled in Ulster). Frontiersman, hunter, militia scout in Creek War under Jackson. TN legislator then US Congressman (1827-31, 1833-35), opposed Indian Removal. Folk hero "King of the Wild Frontier". Died Mar 6 at Alamo in Texas Revolution.
