Tatsuro Kiuchi is one of Japan’s most respected illustrators, painters, and visual artists.
Born in Tokyo in 1966, he initially studied biology at the International Christian University in Tokyo before switching to an art career. He later graduated with distinction from the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California, in 1991, where he studied illustration.
His breakthrough into international editorial work came through commissions for major American publications, including The New York Times, The Washington Post, Time Magazine, The Guardian, Bloomberg Businessweek, and others.
His distinctive style is often described as poetic realism or contemplative realism.
