Mart Barbara Chaldean Monastery in Karamlesh, Iraq.
Built on an ancient tel (hill) believed to be the site of Saint Barbara’s martyrdom and tomb.
Saint Barbara’s Monastery has stood for centuries as a witness to Mesopotamian Christian faith.
During the ISIS occupation of Northern Iraq (2014–2017), the monastery was severely damaged, and its sacred grounds desecrated by violence.
Today, Lebanese Maronite Sisters serve there in solidarity with the Chaldean community, helping to restore prayer, hope, and Christian life to the Nineveh Plains.
