But many of those cultures exist within the UK. Lots of extended families make it work and it doesnโt impact their social development. Theres a lot to be said about how we view the idea of โliving at homeโ and the individualistic mindset thatโs encouraged here.

Intergenerational cultures structure adult autonomy into the household. The UK doesnโt, people stay because they canโt leave. One builds adult roles in by nature of it being the norm, the other suspends them. Different mechanism, different outcome & I didnโt call anyone inept ๐๐พ

@Reenie___ Also I think itโs something about outgrowing the house itself. Maybe if we banded together like other cultures and pooled resources we could afford a larger home for us all. And still spread living costs.

Thereโs research on how living at home into adulthood negatively affects people developmentally and socially. Sure many people canโt afford to move out. Both things are true. The constraint explains it, but we donโt need to pretend it isnโt detrimental
