This morning America lost one of our great comedians and patriots, and I lost a dear friend. Tom Dreesen died at 86 years old. He was a special person, a U.S. Navy veteran with a tremendously charitable heart. He served as a Gary Sinise Foundation ambassador for the past 14 years and was always there when I asked for his support. He loved our country and the men and women who serve and he loved supporting them through our foundation. Tom was hilarious, always could make us laugh, and such a good friend. I will miss him terribly. What a great long career he had in show business. Thank you, Tom. God Bless you my friend. Rest in Peace brother.

25 years ago today, we lost Firefighters Harry S. Ford and Brian D. Fahey of Rescue 4, and Firefighter John J. Downing of Ladder 163 in the tragic Father’s Day Fire. Their courage, service, and Supreme Sacrifice will never be forgotten. New York City will never forget.

DEA Board Officers were proud to attend a special Family Fun Day honoring the life and legacy of Detective John Edgar. Fellow Finest and family gathered to remember a true friend, dedicated detective, and 9/11 hero. A special moment of the day was the presentation of a New York Mets jersey to John’s cousin, a retired Hoboken Police Officer, in honor of John’s lifelong love for the Mets. Though Detective Edgar passed away from a 9/11-related illness, his service, sacrifice, and memory will never be forgotten.

🇺🇸 The 50 star American flag flying today was designed in 1958 by 17 year old Robert G. Heft as a high school class project. He got a B-minus on it. The teacher claimed the design "lacked originality" and jokingly remarked that if Heft didn't like the grade, he should get the flag accepted in Washington. Heft called his teacher's bluff. He sent his physical prototype to his congressman, Walter Moeller, who forwarded it to the design pool. Out of more than 1,500 submissions, President Eisenhower picked his design. His teacher later changed his grade to an A. Thank you, Robert! The flag is beautiful! 🇺🇸

The UFA regretfully announces the WTC-related passing of retired Battalion Chief William P. Blaich, Battalion 1. Appointed in 1969 and retired in 2005, BC Blaich bravely served in the rescue and recovery efforts at the World Trade Center.
