Good morning and Happy Halloween #HorrorFam & #MutantFam! Did you know Anna Paquin's character "Laurie" in Trick 'r Treat (2007) is named after Laurie Strode from Halloween (1978)? This tribute to the iconic final girl adds an extra layer of horror homage to the film's intertwined Halloween night tales. Have a great day today, everyone.

Good morning and Happy Thursday #HorrorFam & #MutantFam! Did you know that special effects artist Rob Bottin played the lead ghost Blake in The Fog (1980)? When Bottin asked John Carpenter for the role, Carpenter told him to "stand up." Bottin expected to hear "...and get out!" but when Carpenter saw that Bottin was 6'5" (the imposing height needed for Blake), he was hired on the spot! Sometimes being in the right place at the right time with the right height is all it takes. Bottin's towering presence made Blake genuinely menacing! Have a great day today, everyone.

Good morning and Happy Wednesday #HorrorFam & #MutantFam! Did you know that locals made filming Village of the Damned (1995) a nightmare for John Carpenter? Shot in western Marin County, California (Carpenter's second home at the time), the production faced constant harassment and vandalism from unhappy residents. Neighbors would start chainsaws or mow lawns during sound takes until paid to stop, and some even tried breaking into equipment trucks! The experience soured Carpenter on the area where he'd also filmed The Fog (1980). Talk about hostile locals making a horror movie even more horrifying behind the scenes! Have a great day today, everyone.

"Nosferatu" was made in the aftermath of both World War I and the devastating 1918-1920 Spanish Flu pandemic that killed millions worldwide. The film's themes of an unstoppable foreign contagion spreading death throughout a helpless community resonated deeply with audiences who had just lived through these catastrophic events. This historical context gives the film's horror elements a powerful subtext that transcended simple scares.

Good morning and Happy Tuesday #HorrorFam & #MutantFam! Did you know that Bruce Campbell was John Carpenter's first choice to play Montoya in Vampires (1998)? Imagine the Evil Dead legend bringing his chainsaw swagger to Carpenter's vampire-hunting team! While Daniel Baldwin ultimately took the role, it's fun to think about Campbell's horror icon energy in a Carpenter film. The combination of Campbell's cult status and Carpenter's directing would have been pure genre heaven. Sometimes the casting that almost happened is just as interesting as what we got! Have a great day today, everyone.

Composer Harry Manfredini proposed a specific music strategy: the score would only play when the killer was present or when the camera adopted the killer's point of view. This made the music itself a narrative device that signaled danger to the audience.
