The whole ‘Mary’ album and era are a deep cut. No, it didn’t have back to back #1 singles. What it did have was a new and unlocked next level to the musicality that is Mary J. Blige. ‘Mary’ was for the arts, not the charts and it STILL sold extremely well. “Your Child” is one of MJB’s most popular songs. At her For My Fans Tour last year she broke out this classic during an acapella moment and the crowd knew the whole song. Sometimes a hit in the streets is more important than a hit on the charts.
