Rufai: I can criticize President Tinubu but then commend him for taking our foreign reserves to $50 billion and about 1.5 million students are getting student loans. Obi: No No No No, All that does not matter. If I am there things will change.

There are now actually lecturers in Obafemi Awolowo university who have lived all of their lives, from birth till now, within that campus community. From birth to school to adulthood to graduation and teaching careers have been withing the confines of that university town.

UPDATED: Fresh Attack on Kishi-Igbeti Road Claims One Life A suspected bandit ambush around 9:30 p.m. on Friday, June 12, 2026, along the Kishi-Igbeti corridor in Oyo State has left an electricity worker, Moshood Kayode ("Mr. Kay"), dead and several others injured after gunmen opened fire on a moving vehicle. The latest incident adds to growing concerns over insecurity around the Old Oyo National Park, which residents say is increasingly serving as a haven for kidnappers and armed gangs. The area has witnessed a series of violent incidents in recent months, including the abduction of four travelers, the killing of five park rangers in January, and the reported detention of kidnapped schoolchildren and teachers within the forest. Residents are demanding urgent military and police operations to flush out criminal elements and restore security along the Kishi-Igbeti axis before more lives are lost. cc: @Letter_to_Jack

The Stubbornness of Birds There is something almost admirable about the stubborness of birds, in their breeding season. I live in the rural outskirts of Ibadan, so birds are common here. Two species in particular are almost always around my house: the common kingfisher and the bronze mannikin. The mannikins have been breeding in my house for about three years now. They have somehow chosen my house as their community meat as they make nests in three different locations around my roof. One of those sites sits dangerously close to my electric wiring, and I was not about to let a bird's real estate preferences burn my house down. So I started destroying the nest at that particular spot whenever they built it, while leaving the other two untouched. I thought this was a reasonable arrangement. Generous, even. They disagreed. They kept rebuilding at the same spot, with the same confidence, as if I had not just dismantled their work the day before. I want to sit them down. Call a proper meeting. Put it to them plainly: I have given you two out of three sites. That is a 67% concession. In what negotiation is that not a win? What exactly are your objections? But birds do not negotiate. They just build. And build. And build again.

This my uncle’s death is still paining me. Even though he has lived well enough, still wouldn’t mind having him around for a while. He’s so real. Very successful from a young age, he’d sit with you and tell you where he made mistakes. He also trained some of the most successful of us - Gbite and Leye Falade. At his peak he said he bought 3 cars in a day, he admitted he didn’t need them, it was just exuberance. Told me how too many women will complicate your life. Still spoke to him last month with my wife. Fly high Chief Asalu Oyedokun Solomon - Head (Falade-Asalu compound, Ejigbo, Osun state.)
