@HenryLouisGates @washingtonian Recent NY State Regent, Wilhelmena Kelly, was American of African descent. NY has many proud members of African descent, esp. Increase Carpenter and NYC chapters have multiple members. Natl Convention recently honored Katherine Johnson. DAR has a long list of black soldiers.
