Wow. Rough day for Cardano - and not just for price. Cardano effectively went down for the first time. Apparently, a hacker caused a network partition to occur by exploiting a bug in an older version of Cardano's software. This created two chains. Blocks are being made on both sides, but one will eventually overtake the other and cause the malicious chain's blocks to be orphaned. This means 1) temporarily slower blocks and confirmations for users on both sides of the fork, and 2) some transactions on the malicious fork will be reversed, aka lost forever. Number 2 means double spending may have happened - the core problem that crypto is supposed to solve. SPOs have acted quickly to update their software to a new version without the bug, and network performance is recovering already, but this seems to have ended Cardano's perfect uptime streak by any reasonable definition. This is bad, but not unheard of. Bitcoin has suffered something very similar. For example, in 2013, there was a mistake in the code upgrading from v0.7 to v0.8 that caused the network to accidentally hardfork for a few hours. Merchants, miners, users etc using v0.8 ultimately had to revert back to v0.7, orphaning the blocks on v0.8 and causing tens of thousands of dollars in damage including missed mining rewards, and at least one recorded double spend against OKPay. This moment now stands out as "downtime" for Bitcoin, part of one of two brief historical events that prevent its uptime record from being a perfect 100%. Ethereum also had its DAO hack moment in 2016 when the network hardforked to recover losses - the original chain actually still exists as Ethereum Classic. Then there's Solana, which goes down every season (lol). The point is, it's a learning lesson, and the chain can move on from this. But all good things come to an end, and records are made to be broken. I guess this is one more thing Bitcoin and Cardano have in common. 😅

@rich07840 @IOHK_Charles Depending on how many wallets you created and how many nights you need to claim on each wallet with ADA, each ADA TX is ~$0.08, so it can be huge. Consolidate now if you can.

@Wookimeta @midnightfdn Yeah, the ADA is pretty cheap, depending on how many wallets you have, so you might have to send <$1 ADA into each wallet . ADA fee is 0.17 ADA = ~$0.07 for each transaction

@Salty_B4 @midnightfdn For the transition fee, I believe you just need a dollars of $ADA for claiming it. If your are browser mining, should be at the site; it probably has to wait until tomorrow or later to claim.
