This new government unwisely chose to continue Russia's involvement in the war, setting the stage for the more consequential Bolshevik Revolution later that year.

This would lead to the end of the Romanov monarchy and the establishment of a liberal government, with socialist parties included, known as the Provisional Government.

On March 8th, 1917 (February 23rd in the Julian calendar, used at the time), bread riots broke out in Russia, a consequence of food shortages caused by Russia's disasterous involvement in World War 1.

Malcolm X would moderate his position before his death, but he is best known for his uncompromising stances, which provided a clarifying juxtaposition to King's approach. Malcolm X warned about what could be, if black Americans were not treated as full citizens.

Today, we remember the assassination of Malcolm X on February 21st, 1965. An advocate of black nationalism, separatism, and armed resistance, Malcolm X provided a stark contrast to the tenet of nonviolence held by the Civil Rights movement, as embodied by Martin Luther King Jr.
