So I’ve decided to finally take the jump and post some gamedev on THE TWATTERS. I feel a little silly doing so after wasting so many years arguing about Star Wars, but it is what it it is. Better late than never! Got a bit of work to waveswim done, and I implemented some new systems where when you smack fish about they spin around a bit, it's a twist on stun that I think will be a great means of allowing the player to really dominate weak fish, but enemies that are immune to this sort of control will be much harder to fight. There is so much about this that is rough around the edges and needs improving part of me wants to never make a public update, but I also realize that it’s important we at least try to post this crap, start figuring out what sticks, or at the very least, forum slide all the stupid crap we shit posted over all these deranged years XD SeaCrit is not perfect, dunno how much further we have to go until it’s actually worth showing off, but i figure eh, let’s try to start getting our head into this marketing game and try to feel this space out, we have nothing to lose. I'm going to guess we get maybe 12 views on this post and we’ll be lucky to get a single reply, but we gotta start somewhere. That said I do think our project is becoming pretty neat and hopefully not a total waste of others' time. #indiegaming

It's a terrible environment to be a gamedev. I would have given up all prospects of making millions of dollars if I could have just made an honest living all these darned years. I hate how winner-takes-all this fickle industry is, and how so many hard working devs break their backs and their wallets trying to give the world something awesome while living in shame and squalor. It's so damned sad.

Not enough people realize how much Dune influenced Star Wars. The big Bad guy was his uncle. The dynamics of hte universe rendered ranged weapons pointless meaning the much more interesting melee combat was how the highest echelons of combat took place. There was that mystical religion that allowed the hero to master the ancient mysticism after growing up on a desert planet in a universe of hyper light travel. George added some Jim Henson magic to it all and it became the greatest film series of all time. Not trying to detract from Star Wars, just highlighting that the most genius works pass through many hands, and get refined generation to generation, medium to medium. Such an awesome universe, shame they got their grubby hands on it and filled it with that rancid, post modernism horse shit.

I don't think people get how cool it's going to be if Unity gets the full engine running in all its glory in web, with performance and everything streamlined to work on that singular platform. That changes EVERYTHING. It might help that i'm one of the lone goofballs that target web with my current game project, but I think a lot of people would be shocked how easy it is to port their game to web. Sure steam and the app stores dominate today, but that could change fast if the right alternative pops up with web and storefronts built into the game gets more traction. But then you've got the Linux shakeups happening with Valve, and Epic teaming up with Microsoft. Who knows what platform ends up winning long term, but it's kinda crazy the BIG MOVES going on right now, and most people don't even realize it! To say nothing of the AI revolution happening and how smaller teams of novices are able to kitbash mediocre engines in a matter of weeks now. STRANGE DAYS!

@JamesWard The more I learn about AI, the more respect I lose for the people that banked our entire future upon it. Despicable, selfish, and short sighted.

To say AI would be trite and maybe even counter productive. So I'll say the world would be better if we could delete the belief that AI is going to magically work better and save us, and we should abandon all investment in ourselves with the sole priority being to feed the AI and absolve ourselves of the responsibility of our own future. In a perfect world, we would create the AI with the notion it's a tool like any other, and that it will only be as good as we are at utilizing it. Instead we have stunted all forward progress, and banked our entire future on a cold machine. It's terrifying and depressing to know that we even did that, let alone the potential ramifications.

I think he's just a dude that sees the capacity for efficiency. He loved books, saw an untapped market and wanted to do something cool. So he did, and he made a shitton of money doing it. I don't think it's quite as nefarious as people make it out to be. But what happened in the years succeeding? As the yes men and women showed up. As the sycophants and circles started to form and feed their tendrils in and find a means of exploiting that money and influence Bezos came upon? That's where the rot starts to set in. The problem is, good, earnest people don't go out there and spread lies and seek influence, petty, subversive people do that. They exploit the goofball billionaires who don't know what on earth to spend all that money on. The whole situation is just so sad. We lack purpose and truth any more. Everyone is so soft and easily offended, and people are afraid of standing out from the packs of ravenous wolves that tear everything down. So all we're left with in this world is the spite and tribalism, because that's easily cultivated. It's easy to point the finger, it's easy to say Jeff Bezos is an evil doer, and that other tribe is the reason for all the world's ills. Before Mr. Bezos built Amazon, the world was less affordable, and it was harder to get books. He did a lot of good with Amazon, but people find it easy to forget about that, because no one upvotes for speaking good of others. The only easily seized influence and clout is in the negativity. Whether it be in those elite circles of the well to do moralists that corrupt the billionaire classes, or whether it's the unwashed masses on twitter demeaning anyone who's ever accomplished anything of meaning in this silly world.

Stop calling Jeff Bezos greedy.. greed has a limit.. what he's doing doesn't.. a man with $200 billion doesn't need more money.. he needs more control.. money stops being money at that number.. it becomes infrastructure.. leverage.. power.. > He didn't build Amazon because he needed a bookstore.. he built it to own the pipe everything flows through.. > He didn't buy the Washington Post because he loves journalism.. he bought it so nobody could write about him without his permission.. > He's not raising $100 billion because factories are profitable.. he's raising it because whoever owns the factories AND the robots owns the entire supply chain.. you're asking "why does he need more money".. he doesn't.. he needs you to need him.. for everything.. from the package at your door to the product inside it to the factory that made it.. that's not greed.. greed has a number.. this doesn't have a number.. this.. this.. is something else..
Read Raising Expectations (and Raising Hell)@JPHilllllll

It’s just a weird sickness at some point, this level of greed. You have $200 billion dollars. You could wipe your ass with $100 bills and keep getting richer every day. Why kill thousands and thousands of jobs at this point?

It's all they've done for over a decade. The entire industry is captured by these fuck heads. But so long as they control all of it, they can't go under, they have to much power. They can conjure money, concent and influence right out of thin air. It doesn't matter if you're competent, so long as there's no one above you to fire you. And performance in the market doesn't matter when you just print the money, and you own the market places, there's no competition. The consumers are too controlled to know how to find alternatives, there's no movement, no agency. We're stuck with these dip shits.

This monopolistic, billionaire mindset should sicken every earnest, hard working American. "Do this, it will stifle competition, ensure you make shittons of money while humanity enters a perpetual death spiral as you suck the lifeblood from the world around you." These "founders" are assholes. There is no vision here, there is no progress, there is no value generated for the future generations. We need to stop encouraging one another to emulate such selfish ways, stop worshipping at the alter of parasitic decadence. Monopolies need to be broken the fuck apart. Bring back the grind, bring back competition, bring back the American dream. It is the BEDROCK of prosperity. They can sell all the snake oil they want, they can spin this false notion and that false notion. The proof is in the pudding. Everything they have done in the past 20 years has made the world a more petty, more selfish, and a less human place to exist in.

@joni_askola You forgot someone I used to like this guy, but he's become so taken by sunk cost and self importance he's gone completely friggin' mad. They're stupefying the world, then preying on that stupidity. It's dangerous.

Over the last few years, American tech oligarchs have become the greatest argument against their own existence. The sheer scale of their erratic behavior and political interference proves that extreme wealth concentration is a structural threat to society

Twattering is 33% presenting ill formed opinion as fact, 33% gushing that marketing is more important than execution to butter up the other up their ass founders, and 33% engagement farming asking the audience for their take on this tired "founder" behavior. Am I crazy or is literally everyone running the same playbook faking it till they make it? It's like the world has been taken over by founder bots, proclaiming unassailable knowledge of business and producing valuable tech, while having never done anything of the sort. And these are the people with all the money and sway dictating the course of humanity.

Only if we push for excellence elsewhere. We don't. It will just lead to more apathy, laziness and diminishing human potential on a global scale. The value we place on humans executing and performing is diminishing at exponential rates, and that is supremely dangerous. But these guys seem so absurdly sure that the AI will pick up the slack, or people they control with access to the AI. It's awful.

There are good things here, they can achieve a level of polish. The art style is cool borrowing from old school Mickey(if totally overdone presently). But I hear ya, they're indulging in scripted events and fancy one off camera movements and animations to sell the game. Typical sort of audience manipulation without really having much game here speaking for itself. But what can ya do? We're living in the era of party tricks and success by any means possible in indie dev.

This looks like a pretty carefully crafted concept trailer but nothing else. If it’s indie, I would say it looks better to show one thing for any game, gameplay. Right now, I can’t tell you if any of these assets, mechanics, or even the look will translate to a final game. Not a good first impression. IMO
