Ninety two percent of people on the marketplace use these tax credits to afford insurance. The average unsubsidized premium is more than five hundred dollars a month. For many, that is not a healthcare bill; it is a rent payment. You can debate the structure of the Affordable Care Act. You can argue about long term reform. But pulling support with no replacement is not reform. It is destabilization. If both parties claim to fight for working Americans, this is where they prove it. Keep the subsidies in place before people lose coverage in January. Then keep debating everything else. Anyone reading this who agrees, pick up the phone. Call Congress at 202-224-3121. Tell them to stop the shutdown and protect affordable healthcare. Pressure is the only way gridlock ever moves.

I’ve spoken to people young and old who’ve told me they simply won’t be able to afford health care if premiums double. That’s a reality millions of Americans are facing unless Republicans work with us to prevent health care costs from rising and end this shutdown.
