I genuinely do not understand how Yoruba has become synonymous with “ razz” to some people. We speak our language? Razz We act in Yoruba movies? Razz We wear our indigenous outfits? Razz We embrace our culture? Razz At some point, people pushed this stereotype so hard that whenever they want to insult a Yoruba person, the first thing they reach for is “raz.” It’s honestly bizarre. What’s even more surprising is seeing some Yoruba people agree with it, as though they don’t realize the insult is directed at them too. They’re not just talking about one person; they’re attaching a negative label to an entire ethnic group and culture. The funniest part is that in this particular situation, many of the people publicly supporting and defending the woman aren’t even Yoruba. Yet somehow, some of you still found a way to turn it into an attack on Yoruba actresses and Yoruba people as a whole. At what point do people acknowledge that this “Yoruba = razz” narrative is just a stereotype? Because reducing an entire ethnic group, language, and culture to a derogatory label is strange behavior.
