DYK: The U.S. is one of the world’s top tobacco producers—and child labor is still legal in the fields where it’s grown. North Carolina & Kentucky produce 77% of U.S. tobacco, and both allow children to work in tobacco fields at 12 years old. #EndUSChildLabor #WorldNoTobaccoDay

Big Tobacco spent decades targeting kids as customers and exploiting their labor. Children as young as 12 are working in tobacco fields, exposed to toxic levels of nicotine that cause lasting harm. I'm proud to join @SenatorDurbin in banning child labor in tobacco. Our kids’ health comes before corporate profit.

Farming tobacco can cause breathing difficulties, nausea, headaches, dizziness, rashes, & irritation to mouth & eyes. But in the US, a 12yr-old can do this hazardous work. Write to legislators to stop #ChildLabor in tobacco! @EndUSChildLabor @ChildLaborCLC #WNTD #TobaccoExposed
