Wanted to give a shout-out to Brian Green, the coach of the Wichita State baseball team. The Shockers have dealt with a LOT of injuries, so things are a little more sideways than @coachbriangreen probably likes, but this dude can absolutely coach. Had the chance to get familiar with him when talking with Elijah Hainline, one of his former players at Wazzou, who transferred to Oregon State when Coach Green took the Wichita State job. I will be VERY surprised if he doesn't get that program back to being VERY good, he can recruit, and he develops VERY strong relationships. And, he knows how to build and retain, TBH. That program just needs to give him time to get his program fully established. #gopokes #okstate @GoShockersBSB

@tberry917 @tayloreldridge And when you do play good defense they will call it. yet no ramifications for the refs making the calls. They’re just on to the next assignment the next day. Makes for really entertaining games, however, extremely frustrating to players, coaches, and those invested in program.

@tayloreldridge If teams are allowed to play very aggressive defense with holding, grabbing, and shoving not called fouls, then no lead is safe. It has been true for many years but was horrendous in this game. Charlotte is one of the most foul prone teams yet little was called.

No lead is safe in American Conference play. UAB blows a 16-point lead at home to Wichita State. Wichita State blows an 18-point lead and loses in double OT at Charlotte. South Florida blows an 11-point lead in final 5 minutes to lose in double OT at home to UAB.

@tannerdripjobs Nailed it! Love this mindset. It’s especially important in the service industries - but a good rule of thumb - treat everyone with respect and kindness and good things typically follow. The foundation that my family businesses are built on.

Customer called me screaming. "Your crew tracked paint through my entire house. There are footprints on my hardwood floors. This is unacceptable." My stomach dropped. I apologized. Said I'd be there in 30 minutes. (Those drives are the worst, IYKYK) Drove over preparing for disaster. Playing out the conversation in my head. Thinking about how much this was going to cost to fix if it didn't come up. Walked in the door. The "footprints" were three small drops in the hallway that someone had stepped on and left a track. Maybe the size of quarters. Now here's where most contractors mess up. They get defensive. "Ma'am, that's barely anything. We'll wipe it up, no big deal." That's how you turn a small problem into a mess. Instead, I got on my knees. Looked at the spots closely. Nodded seriously. "You're absolutely right. This shouldn't have happened. I'm going to clean this up personally right now, and I'm going to have a conversation with my crew about protecting floors better." Spent 10 minutes wiping up spots that would've come off with a wet paper towel and a special cleaning solution for wood floors that I picked up on the way. She watched me do it. Her whole demeanor changed. "Thank you for taking this seriously. Most contractors would've just argued with me." Left with a hug. Got a 5-star review the next day. She's referred us twice since. The spots weren't the problem. Her feeling heard was the problem. Most "difficult customers" just want to know you give a damn. Could my crew could've fixed it? No. They made the mess. They lost her trust. Get on your knees and wipe up the spots. Humble servant always wins.

Gist from Paul Mills after the game was that the first half was a failed experiment. WSU was playing in a deliberate formation to see how it looked and it was clear that WSU wasn't comfortable with it. Shockers went back to playing normal after halftime.

For reference, here's what no jamming sometimes led to with Wichita State's transition defense last season. Expect this to change this year. PG's were able to dribble and pass up the court without any pressure. Actually cost Shockers in the ECU game with the Felton game-winner.

Paul Mills told me this week that Wichita State is practicing "jamming" with its transition defense, a change from previous years. Example of jamming from Purdue, who designates a "jammer" to basically pick up other PG off make/miss in attempt to prevent fast-break offense.
