That would require around 40 billion litres of ethanol per year. India’s current sugarcane production is around 400 million tonnes per year, out of which more than 90% is used for jaggery, white sugar, and other edible products. Only about 3–5% is currently used for ethanol. If we move to E85, we would need to produce roughly 250–300 million tonnes of sugarcane per year for ethanol alone, assuming around 60% of ethanol comes from other sources. In addition, we would still need around 500–600 million tonnes for human consumption and existing sugar demand. We are already becoming a water-stressed country by using sugarcane on just 5–10% of agricultural land. Increasing production further could push more states into water stress. Because of this, we would likely need to shift toward growing more corn for ethanol or rely on imports from the world’s largest corn producer, the United States.

@samanya_kumar Wrong analysis. In fact, when caste based reservations will be demanded by other religions, especially muslims, that's when a serious discussion on whether caste based reservations are required anymore can happen. And that is when we can get rid of it.

The objective is to extend reservations to all religions based on caste. They've been explicit about it. Prime Sinister himself has talked about caste based reservations to Muslims. This way they'll isolate the UCs (mostly Brahmins ultimately). They'll be designated the "elites" and a cultural revolution will be carried out. Whether that revolution will follow the exact violent script like the Chinese one is yet to be seen.

India banned real-money gaming in 2025 Legal platforms shut down, 7,000 people lost jobs, and the government lost ₹5,600 crore in GST and TDS revenue. Meanwhile the illegal betting market hit $100B in annual deposits and grew 30% year on year. The top 15 offshore platforms got 5.4 billion visits in FY25 alone. Bans on supply (stopping legal apps) do not kill demand (people who want to bet). People just go to apps the government cannot touch. No KYC, no age checks, no tax collected. The ban didn't reduce gambling. It just moved all of it to apps the government can't touch. Paytm tried to enter online gaming legally through First Games. Got hit with a ₹5,712 crore GST notice, took a ₹190 crore impairment, and the real-money gaming arm shut down after the 2025 ban. Meanwhile, 1xBet and Stake process deposits through UPI and Paytm itself - as a payment method, not a platform. So Paytm couldn't run games legally, but illegal apps use Paytm wallets to move betting money without any friction. The payment rail works fine. The legal product doesn't. $100B in annual deposits and the government collects zero tax from it. India's legal online gaming revenue before the ban was around $5B, taxable, KYC-verified, regulated. 2025 ban wiped that out. Now the entire demand sits on offshore apps running through crypto wallets and UPI back channels. The Ministry froze 2,000 bank accounts but that's a rounding error when 5.4 billion visits hit these platforms in one year. You don't fix demand-side problems with supply-side bans. You just lose the tax revenue. even kids do gambling though Telegram & IPL is a main event :) Well, I am watching Matka king - which is just okayish not worth much of my time :)
