Today, the #FriedrichEbertStiftungNamibiaOffice conducted a courtesy visit to the #NamibiaParliament. The purpose of the visit was to formally introduce the FES Director to the Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Saara Kuugongelwa, and identify areas for cooperation.

Colonial legacies do not simply belong to the past, they continue to shape the realities of women in Namibia today. From media representation to legal protections, the echoes of history persist in systems that influence women’s leadership, safety, and visibility.

Despite the ratification of core international labour conventions by representatives of governments and domestication of the conventions by workers and employers in Africa, significant challenges remain in upholding human and labourrights in the fight for #socialjustice.

The fight for gender justice within unions is ongoing, and the Metal and Allied Namibian Workers Union (MANWU) is committed to promoting an equitable and just society. As part of this effort, MANWU is reviewing its gender policy, originally established in 2015.
