Most of us can handle simple phrases like “thank you,” “hello,” “good morning,” or “excuse me.” It’s just that once conversations go beyond that, it suddenly feels a lot harder—and even if we know what we want to say, the words don’t come out. So if someone in Japan tries to speak English with you, it really helps if you speak a bit slower or keep things simple. We might not be fluent, but the intention to communicate is definitely there.
