New research, in partnership with @EdinburghNapier, suggests that European silver fir, Pacific silver fir, and Serbian spruce could be blended into the British spruce C16 market, offering promising alternatives for future timber production. These species demonstrated strong potential in meeting C16 strength class requirements, supporting efforts to diversify species in British forests. 🔗 ow.ly/oapl50Vtcxc #ForestResearch #SustainableForestry #TimberInnovation #TreeDiversity #WoodProperties

@SallyHo17454000 They will reschedule it and perform somewhere in bloody Ambridge, probably. A la ‘Let’s Do the show right here!’ sickly sweet and wholesome 1950s musical stylee. 😆 #TheArchers

Well THAT’S a lovely bit of good news, boys and girls! THE PANTO IS OFF! (Why couldn’t the roof have collapsed whilst everyone was watching it?). #TheArchers

@Mr_Minchin You can also make objects in windows 3d builder and put them in PowerPoint slides. I've been doing that and intimating their orientation with the morph transtion just as you showed. (I have been using morph extensively since I learned about it from one of your posts!)

I read up a little on the "Sexy Handaxe Theory" thing and honestly surprised that it would seem weird to anyone that there would be a lot of unnecessarily nice axes that seem barely used.
Dr. James Dilley@ancientcraftUK

Often labelled as a multi-function tool for cutting, digging, smashing bones or even displays of sexual prowess; its likely handaxes were primarily used as butchery tools, working like a bread knife, with a sawing action. ancientcraft.co.uk/product-page/l… 📷 @emmalouwynjones

Great to see innovative use of timber in a university teaching/learning environment, in “the egg” iconic Lindsay Stewart Lecture Theatre, @EdinburghNapier for #WSE2024 hosted via @FlyingQuercus & colleagues.

We're hosting the WSE2024 conference. For this, my colleague Marlene Cramer has made an excellent audio walking guide so you can have a technical tour at your convenience even if not attending the conference. Big thanks to Marlene & all who contributed. blogs.napier.ac.uk/cwst/walking-w…

A consultation on "Invest 2035: the UK’s modern industrial strategy" is open and I cannot help but notice art in this figure. (Also the spelling of advanatge but we've all been there). Bit concerning that the Net Zero stuff is only about energy though. gov.uk/government/con…

@PaulBrannenNE @JCDrinkwater @JoeGiddings4 I have a copy (obviously) but as an academic working in the UK the last thing I seem to have any time for is reading a book. I will say it is good and light to carry around and not have time to read. People who have read it tell me they liked it.

It is now 100 days since the publication of Timber! My publisher tells me "Sales are going well" however "It would be good to get a few more reviews on Amazon". So if anyone can help with this request that would be much appreciated! @JCDrinkwater @FlyingQuercus @JoeGiddings4

@andyheald The Golden Spruce is such a fantastic book. I'm excited to be heading to Haida Gwaii in a couple of weeks, and I've read and reread it as I pack my kit

@jon_lauderdale @duolingo Same. A poor reward for finishing. I am getting excellent at announcing I have two old trumpets and three new bagpipes - I just don't think it will come up much in conversation. By the way, did you know the United States of America is not next to Malaysia? I sure do now.

Hi @duolingo ! Why is the "daily refresh" so repetitive? I've been doing the same questions for ages, with only minor variations here and there. The algorithm for the "practice to earn hearts" seems to draw from the whole course, but "daily refresh" appears stuck in one module.
