Drugs that slow the progression of Alzheimer's disease but are deemed too expensive to prescribe, could now be approved. Donanemab and Lecanemab are licensed for use, but the spending watchdog said their benefits didn't justify the cost. Now the drugs' manufacturers have won an appeal to have them re-assessed - a move that's been welcomed by the Alzheimer's Society.

An urgent public health alert has been issued over the deadly meningitis outbreak in Kent that's already claimed two lives. As work resumes this morning to vaccinate 5,000 students, a case has now been confirmed at a second university in the area. That brings the number of suspected or confirmed cases to 20.
