Nafiu Bala Gombe Claps Back at Kwankwaso: “I’m 46, Not 35 – Oldies Should Step Aside for Youths to Lead” In a fiery response to Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Nafiu Bala Gombe has dismissed claims about his age and accused the former Kano governor of acting like an APC mole who has no business interfering in the party’s affairs. Bala Gombe, said he is not 35 years old as allegedly claimed by Kwankwaso, but 46. He challenged Kwankwaso to conduct proper research before making such assertions. “Even if I were young, Kwankwaso has no right to look down on me,” Bala Gombe said. He reminded Kwankwaso that he and many of today’s political leaders were themselves very young when they took up major public offices. Bala Gombe further advised Kwankwaso and other “oldies” in the political space to emulate the same opportunities they enjoyed in their youth by stepping aside for the younger generation. “They should allow youths to steer the affairs of our parties and the country while they play advisory roles,” he declared. In a direct and hard-hitting accusation, Gombe described Kwankwaso as “still an APC mole.” He recalled that in 2023, Atiku Abubakar and other northern leaders mobilised Arewa elders to prevail on Kwankwaso to step down for the sake of Arewa votes, but Kwankwaso refused. “Having refused to step down then, he has no moral justification to bully or advise me on the injustice being done to me by impostors in the ADC,” Bala Gombe said. He warned Kwankwaso to join the ADC through the proper channel if he wishes to participate, and urged him to familiarise himself with the party’s constitution. Point-blank, Bala Gombe stated that Kwankwaso is not qualified to intervene in the current crisis because he does not regard him as a member of the ADC. “I cannot be bullied by anyone,” Bala Gombe added.

INEC FLAGS OFF MEGA VOTER REGISTRATION EXERCISE IN LAGOS CENTRAL The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has flagged off its Mega Voter Registration Exercise in Lagos Central, as part of ongoing efforts to expand voter access and enhance citizens’ participation in the electoral process. The flag-off ceremony, held at Ajele Sports Complex (Campos), Lagos Island, was led by the Resident Electoral Commissioner for @ineclagos State, Professor Ayobami Salami, alongside members of the Commission’s Management Team in the state. The introduction of the Mega Centre is aimed at addressing the high volume of prospective registrants in densely populated urban areas, reducing congestion at regular registration points, and providing faster, more efficient services through the deployment of additional personnel and equipment. The initiative also seeks to bring registration services closer to citizens in strategic locations, thereby improving accessibility and overall voter experience. The exercise, which commenced on Monday, 7th April 2026, is designed to provide eligible citizens with convenient access to a broad range of voter registration services. These include fresh registration for new voters, transfer of registration, update or correction of voter details, as well as replacement of lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs). Speaking at the event, Prof. Salami urged eligible residents, particularly first-time voters, to take advantage of the exercise to register and actively participate in Nigeria’s democratic process. He reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to ensuring that no eligible voter is disenfranchised. The registration exercise will run until Saturday, 12th April 2026, across designated centres, operating daily from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., as the Commission continues to deepen voter inclusion and strengthen the integrity of the electoral process.
