Il a également obtenu une autre subvention pour étudier les effets des virus Zika et Ebola sur l'homme (également de la FDA). Ses travaux actuels portent sur le développement de méthodes de profilage tissulaire en profondeur, telles que CODEX et MIBI, qui ont contribué de manière fondamentale à l'Atlas des cellules humaines et aux atlas des cellules cancéreuses en cours d'élaboration à l'échelle mondiale. Le Dr Nolan est un fervent défenseur de l'utilisation des investissements publics dans la recherche fondamentale au service du bien commun. Il a fondé Rigel Inc. (NASDAQ : RIGL), Nodality, Inc.
