Budget 2026 is investing in the Alberta Recovery Model. Five more recovery communities are set to open this year, which will open 375 additional addiction treatment beds for Albertans.

Every life lost to addiction is a tragedy, so it is encouraging to see opioid deaths decreasing from the peak in 2023. This is especially notable in Lethbridge. We continue to invest in the Alberta Recovery Model, because recovery is possible.

Alberta is improving access to opioid agonist therapy (OAT) across the province through Recovery Alberta. ‼️OAT is a proven treatment for opioid use disorder that can cut overdose risk by about 50%. ‼️One type of OAT, Sublocade, saw a 1,500% rise in prescriptions from 2021–2025.
