The following were all Christian nations: Turkey Egypt Syria Iraq Lebanon Jordan and PALESTINE Libya North Africa Sudan They are all now Muslim majority nations where Christian’s make up 10% or less of the population. Read that again, Muslim majority nations. There’s only one country in the Middle East, where the Christian population has grown and that country is Israel. That is not an opinion that is a fact. Did the Jewish people have a right to a state? There is a well-known test for deciding whether a nation can become a state. Since Israel has been a state for close to 80 years, this question is more academic, but did the Jewish people have a right to a state? Do Palestinians have a right to a state today? Jordan was broken off from the British Mandate of Palestine as a state from the Arabs in 1920 to create an Arab Palestinian state. Was that the expression of Palestinian statehood? Close to 140 countries have recognized the State of Palestine [SIC]. Is the Palestinian right to statehood driving so many countries to recognize their state? There's a four-part test that comes from the Montevideo Convention in 1933 that asks four simple questions to decide whether a nation is a legitimate state. 1. Do the people have a defined population? 2. Do the people have a land with defined borders? 3. Do the people have one single effective government? 4. Do the people have the capacity to conduct foreign relations? There is no dispute that Israel met all of those factors in 1948 when it was created, and that it has met those four factors every single second of every day since 1948. The Palestinians fail at least two of those four factors. It doesn't have defined borders. The European countries that recently recognized a Palestinian state were unwilling in any of their press releases or subsequent statements to define what those borders are because they don’t have defined borders. The Palestinians are not governed by one government, let alone an effective one. Hamas rules part of Gaza, Israel rules the other part. The Palestinian Authority rules some parts of the West Bank, Judea and Samaria, Israel rules other parts. No one can honestly state the Palestinians have an effective government. There is no right to a country. The lie that people have a right to a country under international law is now increasingly being spread by unscrupulous characters suggesting the Palestinians have a right to a state. Israel's "right" to a state came from its having declared independence, fulfilled the Montevideo convention criteria, and then recognition and admission to the UN that followed.
