Today marked the final meeting of the Edmonton Metropolitan Region Board (EMRB). Over the past 17 years, the EMRB has played a key role in supporting regional growth, including housing, land use, and transportation infrastructure. I would like to thank the dedicated staff and elected officials who have contributed to this work and supported the growth and prosperity of our region. While the EMRB will no longer continue, Edmonton remains committed to collaboration with our regional partners. Our communities are stronger when we work together, and there is a great opportunity to continue partnering on the issues that matter most to our residents. #yeg #yegcc

A personal note: Dec. 27th was my last day at the Globe and Mail. After a quarter century in newspapers and journalism, I’m leaving to try something different in 2025 - with details to come. Reporting and column-writing have been my life, so this is a tough one. But it’s time to do and learn something new. It’s been my honour to work for @globeandmail, my north star for news and context. The editors, reporters and columnists are incredibly hardworking and smart. And reading the Globe is absolutely necessary for any Canadian trying to understand business, housing, immigration, foreign interference, the arts, politics and the world (not a comprehensive list). I am also forever grateful to have been regularly invited to appear on @CBCNews panels. With amazing hosts, producers and fellow panelists, they have kept me fully engaged in my city and Alberta politics, and attuned to issues in other parts of the country. Long live Canadian mainstream media - I will always be a subscriber and a supporter.
