@pfau I have made the same experience in mathematics. Proofs of nontrivial results typically pass the eye test but are wrong. Debugging these proofs is often a major effort (which may actually lead to a better understanding of the problem).

I remain skeptical that being able to generate maybe-correct proofs or code will actually accelerate research all that much, since results still need to be human-verified, and subtly wrong results can actually waste more time than they save.

@GrohsPhilipp I believe it is since Tao himself changed the wording in his later edition of the textbook.

Terence Tao in his Analysis 1 book defines a function from X to Y and mysteriously calls Y the Range.... I think he made a mistake here. Y is called Co Domain , and the Range of f is the set of all images under f. In general f(X) ⊂ Y. If we assume f is Onto, then f(X) = Y.
