104-year-old Emma Clara Schweer is sworn in as the tax collector of Crete Township, Illinois. She arrived late to her swearing-in ceremony because her shoes and her purse did not match. She can still walk, and even at 104 she knows style. Schweer is the oldest currently-serving politician in the United States. She didn’t even want to run, but she was nominated, so she agreed. Picture taken 36 years ago, when Schweer was 68.
