learning order that actually works:
don't start with SNARKs. start with sigma protocols. prove you know a discrete log. three messages. simple
then add Fiat-Shamir. now it's non-interactive
then add polynomial commitments. now you can prove things about polynomials
then combine everything. now you have a SNARK
each step adds one idea. no step requires magic
