Daily Detail - Bank Pass Behind Malkin working the angles to pass behind Brazeau rather than in front. Looks easy here, but try this yourself! The D that stepped can’t get to the puck and is completely back footed. Bonus… Brazeau drags his leg to ensure he is onside.

Daily Detail - Middle Entry Middle entries are so important as they squeeze the defense in and open outside space. Middle entry, kick wide, find late player. Bonus… entry player finishes he route to the net and stops to drive back the D and open space higher in the zone.

Daily Detail - Attack 4 & Ready Change With backchecking a focal coaching point, it’s important to get numbers up ice when attacking on the rush. We see Chicago attacking with 4 while the goal scorer comes onto the ice ready. No fumbling of his stick, and a few hard strides.

Daily Detail - Stick & Body Deception Quintin Byfield sprints up ice and shows he is taking away the near wall. As he notices the puck carrier look and chance body language to pass middle, he pulls his stick and body there to get the interception!

Clip of the day - Puck protection, Using your (ass)et Great job in puck protection using their back side. Placing themselves between the opposition & puck Often the D will push the O into space to give separation, creating space O always have their head up, scanning the ice

Your life after hockey will be longer than your life in hockey… so you have to be all in. Motivation stops at 6am and will make up 1% of your success. Discipline and the ability to get better is what actually makes the difference.

Best explanation you’ll see about the difference between blocked practice vs random practice. Blocked practice has a deceiving trait to it that makes it feel like you’re learning better…

A common issue with young D… passing without creating an advantage first. Notice how the puck carrier beats F1 then attracts F2 before passing to create 3v2:

I recommend one leg skating. Always funny when players start by trying to push against air with their off leg. They quickly learn downforce and rolling edges. Add a puck once it becomes too easy.

Two solid translatable tactics: (1) Hide your feet’s intentions until late or flip flop them to throw off the forechecker (2) Follow your shot to the net for additional opportunities!

Yes, talent matters. But talent has a broad definition. Most of the time, it’s NOT about having a GIFT. It’s about having GRIT. Talents in life: - Discipline - Patience - Trusting yourself - Embracing the process - Managing yourself/your life Everybody has to work at them.
