Ambassador H.E. Jayant N. Khobragade arrived in Madrid today. He was received by officials from the Government of Spain and the Indian Embassy. He commenced his tenure by paying homage to the Statue of Mahatma Gandhi in Plaza Joan Miro, Madrid.

Khan, Director Ejecutivo y CEO de WAF (Foro Mundial de Agricultura), y dialogaron sobre el crecimiento del sector agrícola en India en el contexto global, y la visión de WAF. La Sra. Sofia Forkajm, Colaboradora en CEIGRAM (Centro de Estudios e Investigación para la Gestión de Riesgos Agrarios y Medioambientales), y el Prof. Fernando Escribano, de la Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) y CEIGRAM, acompañaron al Dr. Khan durante la reunión, aportando valiosas perspectivas a la discusión e informando sobre sus proyectos innovadores fuera de España.

The Ambassador held a meeting with Dr. M.J. Khan, Executive Director and CEO of WAF (World Agriculture Forum), and discussed the growth of the agriculture sector in India in the global context, and the vision of WAF. Ms. Sofia Forkajm, Collaborator at CEIGRAM (Centro de Estudios e Investigación para la Gestión de Riesgos Agrarios y Medioambientales), and Prof. Fernando Escribano, Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) and CEIGRAM, accompanied Dr. Khan during the meeting, contributing valuable perspectives to the discussion and informing about their innovative projects outside Spain. @waforum_agri @CEIGRAM @La_UPM

The Ambassador held a productive meeting with National Award-winning Indian actress, Ms. Usha Jadhav. They discussed opportunities for India-Spain collaboration in cinema and the audio-visual sector, especially as we celebrate the India-Spain Year of Culture, Tourism and AI.

El Embajador pronunció el discurso de bienvenida en la conferencia “TLC India-UE: Una Nueva Oportunidad para las Empresas Españolas”, organizada por la Cámara de Comercio de Madrid, y ofreció una perspectiva más amplia de las relaciones India-España. La Dra. Eva Serrano, Vicepresidenta de la Cámara, destacó la historia de crecimiento de India, su joven fuerza laboral cualificada, su dinámica clase media, y presentó en detalle oportunidades sectoriales específicas para las empresas españolas en India. Los sectores mencionados incluyeron agricultura, infraestructura, industria automotriz, turismo, aeronáutica, productos farmacéuticos y energía renovable. Un bufete de abogados indio informó a los participantes sobre el marco regulatorio. El debate destacó el importante potencial para fortalecer aún más las relaciones comerciales y de inversión entre India y España una vez que el TLC entre en vigor.

The Ambassador delivered the welcome address at the conference “India–EU FTA: A New Opportunity for Spanish Companies,” organized by the Madrid Chamber of Commerce, and gave a broader perspective on India-Spain relations. Dr. Eva Serrano, Vice President of the Chamber, highlighted India’s growth story, its young qualified workforce, dynamic middle class, and presented in detail sector-specific opportunities for Spanish companies in India. The sectors mentioned included agriculture, infrastructure, automobile industry, tourism, aeronautics, pharmaceuticals, and renewable energy. An Indian law firm informed participants about the regulatory framework. El Embajador participó en la presentación del Informe sobre la Colaboración India-España en Ciencia, Tecnología e Innovación en el Ministerio de Ciencia, Tecnología e Innovación de España, junto con la Secretaria General de Innovación, Sra. Teresa Riesgo Alcaide, y el Presidente, Sr. Juan Ignacio Entrecanales, de la Fundación Consejo España-India. El Informe abarca el período hasta 2025 y fue presentado como parte del Año Dual India-España 2026 de Cultura, Turismo e Inteligencia Artificial. La reunión también abordó posibles áreas de colaboración en estos ámbitos.

The Ambassador participated in the release of the Report on India–Spain Collaboration in Science, Technology & Innovation at the Ministry of Science, Technology & Innovation, Spain, alongside Secretary General of Innovation Ms. Teresa Riesgo Alcaide and the President Mr. Juan Ignacio Entrecanales of Spain-India Council Foundation. The Report covers the period up to 2025 and was released as part of the India–Spain Dual Year 2026 on Culture, Tourism & Artificial Intelligence. The meeting also discussed possible areas of collaboration in these areas.

La Embajada celebró el 77.º Día de la Fundación del Consejo Indio de Relaciones Culturales (ICCR) con un evento vibrante. Los participantes adquirieron conocimientos sobre el papel del ICCR en el impulso de la diplomacia cultural de la India y su proyección civilizatoria. Los exalumnos de las becas del ICCR compartieron sus experiencias de estudio en la India y su acercamiento a sus ricas tradiciones. Una cautivadora presentación de Bharatnatyam añadió un toque cultural destacado al evento. En sus palabras, el Embajador subrayó la importancia de comprender las culturas de los demás y la contribución del ICCR en este ámbito mediante la difusión de la cultura y el patrimonio de la India a nivel mundial. The ICCR scholarship alumni shared their experiences of studying in India and engaging with its rich traditions. A captivating Bharatnatyam performance added a cultural highlight to the event. Today, India takes a defining step in its civil nuclear journey, advancing the second stage of its nuclear programme.
