I think that "Eastern Roman Empire" and "Byzantine Empire" are both totally appropriate naming conventions for the state established in Constantinople from 330-1453 A.D. It is both a direct continuation and something different, plus "Byzantine" rolls off the tongue better.

Ethnically, ancient Macedonians were a Greek people: they spoke a Greek dialect, shared Greek religion and culture, and Alexander himself spread Hellenic ways. I spent about 2 weeks in Greece and I didn’t see a single burqa ✅ I saw maybe two hijabs and they were on Turkish tourists who looked very moderate No mobs of young North African men on the street like I had to deal with when I lived in Spain Overall I felt very safe, but then again I avoided the dodgy neighbourhoods eg Omonia in Athens
