@Dolfijnmanjohns Make her be mean to animals. The big acts of cruelty are abstract enough to go over people's heads. Small, personal bits of evil, like chaining down a dog to die of thirst, hammer home the fundamental inhumanity of a character

Do you remember when Bronn had no idea how loans worked and wondered why people didn’t simply refuse to pay them, yet he was still named Master of Coin?

human civilization is not possible without psychosis, shared hallucinations are the basis of society and once dispelled are not easily replaced. our economic system is based on temporal magic by literal time wizards taking advantage of stable governance structures backed by a monopoly on violence backed by belief in the credibility of that monopoly. all of this is negotiable, either by the monopolist acting erratically enough to destroy its own credibility or external sabotage propagandizing, or more charitably, “rationally correcting” the minds buying into these belief structures and ultimately enabling the magic. yes, the whole world is in psychosis, reflexivity or, in bay area terminology, “hyperstition,” demands it. in a world where you can help manifest the future you want by believing hard enough and shouting your incantations loud enough, selective psychosis is the only sensible path to the positive outcomes you desire.

@CrowneDiamond If Yuji was saying this power of friendship stuff people would eat it up, but Yuta’s mysterious brain breaking power makes people just see red and compare him to NAOYA of all people

@Marky_X_ In a realistic setting the guild would be something closer to a mercenary company and instead of self-contained quests it would be a series of lengthy contracts which all affect the reputation of the company as a whole

Funny story about this. The only reason why the "Adventurer's Guild" trope exists is due to the video game Wizardry. Fantasy in Japan was not introduced through novels like Lord of the Rings or Conan. It was video games like Wizardry, which became a major inspiration for Dragon's Quest and Final Fantasy. In Wizardry, you didn't have a set party. You created your own characters and death was permanent, so it wasn't uncommon to create new characters. Swapping and "grinding" were essential aspects of the game. Before you went to the dungeon, you were town where you level up, get items, create new characters, and swap characters. Where did you swap characters? Adventurer's Guild. So now you know why this trope seems to be every anime. It's based on a video game in the 80s that still sways influence today.

@MadelaineLucyH I would've said no to the offer of coffee. A one-on-one with someone who you've never hung out with before holds certain connotations. Even if that's not the case it would be less awkward to refuse at first than to clarify later

Ok let’s explore the “She Rejected Me Because I’m Nice” myth. This is Janine, you work with her. She’s fine: a solid fine. Not unbelievably pretty, not hideous, just fine. Could easily work at any Walmart. Janine is nice to you. You’re nice to Janine, because you have no reason not to be. Why would you be horrible? You joke around, make small talk at the office printer. You don’t fancy her and it never crossed your mind. One day, Janine asks if you want to get coffee at lunch. You say yes, because she’s never shown any romantic interest in you and it’s not that kind of bond. At the cafe, Janine looks at you and strokes your hand and goes “I really see this going somewhere, like forever.” You aren’t feeling it. She gets upset and accuses you of only liking bad girls. Have you rejected Janine because she’s “too nice?”
