Last night, JMI hosted its latest Policy Talks event at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music exploring how government action can promote gender equity in the workplace. As the largest employer in the Southern Hemisphere and the biggest employer of women in Australia, the NSW Government plays an essential role in shaping equitable working lives. We were honoured to have The Hon @CourtneyHoussos MLC, NSW Minister for Finance, Domestic Manufacturing and Government Procurement, and Natural Resources, provide the keynote for the evening. Her insights highlighted the critical role government plays in advancing gender equity and creating inclusive workplaces. The discussion drew from the JMI report “Building a more equitable future of work for women in NSW: Opportunities for government action”, authored by JMI Policy Challenge Grant winners Professor @ElizabethHill00 , Professor @Raecooper1 AO and their team from the University of Sydney. Alongside Professors Cooper and Hill, the event also featured insights from Dr Annie Pettitt, who shared concrete case studies and policy approaches from her work at NSW Treasury. The event was expertly hosted by Jane Reynaud, Executive Director for JMI Futures. Thank you to all policymakers, researchers and other experts who participated in this important conversation and stay tuned for a recap of the conversation on the JMI website in the coming days. #NSW #publicpolicy #FutureOfWork

The James Martin Institute for Public Policy (JMI) has released a report outlining key policy opportunities to enhance the adoption of Industry 4.0 technologies in NSW manufacturing. Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are the bedrock of NSW’s manufacturing industry, making up 99 per cent of manufacturing firms in NSW. They underpin the state’s significant contribution to Australia’s total manufacturing income and workforce. Embracing advanced technologies is critical for manufacturing firms’ competitiveness and growth. However, many SMEs have been slow to adopt advanced digital technologies, missing out on improved performance and economic impact. Authored by Associate Professor @DiluJN from @westernsydneyu as part of her JMI Policy Fellowship, Recharging SME manufacturing in NSW identifies strategic actions to drive technological adoption and enhance industry productivity. Great piece by CPD's @CGaukroger in @JMIPublicPolicy's Policymaker today, that explains that by measuring outcomes beyond immediate upfront costs, governments can develop a more holistic understanding of the downstream effects of their decisions. thepolicymaker.jmi.org.au/better-budgeti…
