Last year water companies sewage works illegally dumped sewage on 15,000 dry-days. Yep that's right, there was no rain, no snowmelt, nothing, no reason whatsoever why WCs should be dumping sewage. This morning's Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) announcement exposes yet again the ugly greed and undying lust environment charities have for water companies bloody money, in reality nothing more than the proceeds of crime. Northumbrian Water wanted to put their bills up by an extra 6%. the CMA has said NO! That didn't stop The Rivers Trust, @theriverstrust apparently representing 65 river charities in the UK, The Wildlife and Countryside Link @WCL_News apparently representing 94 charities, The @teesriverstrust and, The @TyneRiversTrust all writing to offer their support and glowing enthusiasm, begging for NW to be allowed to increase bills even further and fleece their customers even more. Remember that the next time your subscriptions are due. Charlatans.

And there you have it, welcome to the water industry. South East Water get fined £22 million which I guarantee will never get paid and certainly not by the shareholders and meanwhile they've put up water bills by 7% which will generate £42 million this year alone.

These fines rarely if ever get paid, shareholders rarely if ever take money out of their pockets to pay them and invariably WCs negotiate some sort of deal so that ultimately it doesn't cost them a penny. Rather ironic coming from an organisation that is currently chaired by one Emma Howard Body the former chair of the Environment Agency who oversaw and was responsible for the utter decimation of the EA and with it every river in the country. PS. Current projection is that by 2027 just 6% of England's rivers will meet 'Good' ecological status down from 24% in 2009. Good job Emma.

And just so you know what kind of scumbags you're dealing with here over recent months South East Water have been in the High Court twice, trying to keep their activities secret. Turns out they had been illegally abstracting water without a licence, 52.3 million litres of it. And were trying to suppress the fact they were about to be fined for not supplying water. No doubt major shareholders @NatWestGroup will be able to confirm that they approved of the company trying keep all of this secret from their customers and the public.
